Chicken by‐product meal as a replacement to fish meal in juvenile abalone ( <i>Haliotis discus hannai</i> Ino 1952) feed

This study aims to assess the effect of replacing anchovy meal with chicken by-product (CBM) in juvenile abalone (Haliotis discus hannai) feed. Five diets were formulated contain 0 (CBM0), 25 (CBM25), 50 (CBM 50), 75 (CBM75), and 100% (CBM100) CBM replacement 24% fish (FM). Dried Saccharina japonica, which is natural food for this species was also prepared. Each diet fed triplicate groups abalone. 1260 assigned into eighteen cages 16 weeks. After 16-week feeding trial, 30 abalones from each cage exposed air 24 h, survival monitored 7 days. Results showed that weight gain specific growth rate CBM0 (185.4 ± 12.83% 0.93 0.040%/day, respectively) significantly (p < 0.04 both) higher than those CBM100 (139.0 6.36% 0.78 0.024%/day, diet. Shell length width 0.003 p 0.02, longer wider CBM75 diets. Survival during 7-day post-observation period after 24-h exposure exhibited no remarkable > 0.1 Log Rank Wilcoxon tests) difference among all according analysis Kaplan–Meier curve. In conclusion, can replace FM up 50% an without compromising performance survival.
